I partnered with Southern Events Party Rentals for this event and post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Throwing a surprise birthday party during a pandemic? I said no problem!
A little background – I have two sisters and a brother. The party was for Elizabeth, and Leah had the idea for the party. Leah text me and said she had originally planned to take Elizabeth on a surprise trip for her 30th birthday, but with the pandemic, that wasn’t going to happen.
The next best thing was to throw Elizabeth a surprise birthday party. We quickly decided on a 1920s/Great Gatsby theme/with a touch of rustic farm flair. I found Southern Events Party Rentals through a quick Google search and found that they had great reviews. Leah and I checked out the website, and found items that would help transform our backyard into a 1920s speakeasy for the birthday party.
We figured having a sort-of “progressive” party would be best to incorporate everything we wanted to achieve. Therefore, we decided on a bar, dining and lounge area + the carport served as our dance floor. The lights really helped tie everything together, and having the bar and dining space look more like the rustic country theme rounded everything out.
We’re big foodies in the family, so we knew that was an important aspect of the party. I partnered with Bonefish Grill and you can read more about that here.
We wanted everyone to feel safe + have fun, and not let this milestone of a birthday go uncelebrated. Elizabeth and Leah always go above and beyond for any special event in our lives, and I/we wanted to do the same. Southern Events help make turn this party into a reality. It allowed us to share quality family time together, while celebrating Elizabeth’s birthday.
I know we’re all spending more time at home, so it only made sense to have a party where we could safely gather. I know that we’ve spent more time in our backyard this year than any of the other summers that we’ve been in Nashville. Your backyard can be a great space to have a small gathering (it was just the 6 of us). With Southern Events offering so many different options to dress up your space, your special occasion can be celebrated, too. I knew it was going to look good, but it was more than I had imagined. To quote Elizabeth, “It all felt like a dream.” I don’t want to sound cliché, but it did feel magical, and it was wonderful to still celebrate.
