Birds are chirping, the sun is setting later, and flowers are blooming. Blistering winds and the cold air are set to cease with winter on it’s way out. Let’s be honest, winter might not be on its way out, but it’s still important to aim for healthy skin in these upcoming warmer months.
Exercise
Stress can cause a number of skin related problems. Exercising for just 30 minutes a day has been shown to lower stress. Walking or jogging is an easy, fun way to get started and get moving towards reducing stress. Check out this great 30 minute energy boosting workout.
Nutrition
Balanced nutrition is the cornerstone for healthy skin. What you feed your body with can impact skin in a number of ways. Vitamin rich foods can help improve your skin.
Vitamin A can help with scaly or dry skin. Foods high in Vitamin A include:
- Eggs
- Milk
- Liver
- Leafy Greens
Vitamin C can stimulate the collagen production of your skin. Foods high in Vitamin C include:
- Oranges
- Broccoli
- Leafy Greens
- Bell Peppers
Collagen supplements are a simple way to improve the health of your skin. While topical creams and cosmetic products can affect skin condition from outside, nutritional supplements taken orally can have an impact from within the skin. Vital Proteins Collagen, a natural essential protein, has clinically been shown to:
- Promote younger looking skin;
- Improve skin moisture level;
- Improve skin smoothness by reducing the number of micro-relief furrows;
- Prevent the formation of deep wrinkles
- Improve skin suppleness
Be Gentle On Your Skin
Hot showers and baths can strip your skin of it’s healthy oils. Limiting the time spent in the shower and reducing the temperature can have a great effect on your skin. Avoid using harsh soaps and face washes, those too can inhibit and wash away the healthy oils from your skin. If your skin is dry, use a safe moisturizers with SPF.
Protect Yourself From The Sun
While getting sun is needed and great for the production of Vitamin D in your body, over exposure can have damaging effects on skin. Use SPF 15 sunscreen or higher and apply every 2-3 hours. If out at the beach or the lake, seek a shady area to set up at. Wearing protective clothing can help as well. Shirts and brimmed hats are good items to bring when heading outside.
Skincare should be a priority no matter the season, only a few adjustments in your winter skincare routine will keep your skin healthy into the warmer months ahead.
