My husband and I have been saying for the past two-and-a-half-years that we’re going to buy a new mattress. As I’m sure you all can relate, life got in the way, and we just now got around to doing it. I had had enough of the mattress we were sleeping on and wanted to explore what mattress options were at Macy’s. Let me tell you, Macy’s has quite a selection when it comes to mattresses and they range from entry level to the top of the line. I’m not sure who can spend $10k on a mattress, unless you print money or are a Kardashian/Jenner.
Anyways – the Macy’s My Stylist Melissa and Bill in Furniture & Mattress Sales, were more than helpful when it came to making the right choice in a mattress. Making decisions can be hard – especially when it comes to big purchases like a mattress. It’s not something you can totally test out in store, unless you stay there overnight which is pretty much impossible. We wanted to take our time, so the first day we narrowed it down to what type of mattress we wanted – firm – and three different brands – Sterns & Foster, Beautyrest and Serta. My husband and I chatted about the choices over the next couple of days and knew that when we went back, that we wanted to try all three again before making a final decision.
When we made our second trip back, there were new mattresses on the showroom floor that weren’t there before because Macy’s was changing out inventory. It felt like starting from square one, and to be completely honest, it was a bit overwhelming. Kevin and I spent about an hour testing out the new beds and eliminating the ones we didn’t like. When it came to making our final decision, we wanted the most bed for our buck and I believe we got that with the mattress we chose. We went with a Sealy Pillow Top Firm. We also purchased a bed frame (see video for the old, and I mean old, metal bed frame we were using), plus new boxsprings. They were free with the promotion that Macy’s was running. We also scored a super hot deal on the mattress because of the current sale. Bill reassured us that if we didn’t like the mattress we chose, we had 120 days to return it for something else.
Like I mention in the video, the delivery process was super smooth and the guys were in-and-out in less than 10 minutes. We’ve been sleeping on our bed for less than a week, and I’m really starting to like it. At first I wasn’t too sure because I think I was so used to sleeping on our old soft bed. I’ve been waking up in the morning and not experiencing a sore chest from the slipped-rib that I have. Kevin says so far it’s great. It allows him to fall into a deep slumber and he stays asleep longer.
My advice would be to take your time and don’t rush the process. Make certain that you know what you’re looking for and don’t settle, even if that means making multiple trips to test out mattresses. Don’t be afraid to ask a million and one questions, and don’t forget to ask about a return policy. I know that I felt a bit overwhelmed testing out all the brands, but something that my husband and I did to keep track of what we liked and didn’t like was narrowing down one or two mattresses per brand. Then we went back and made further selections that allowed us to narrow it down to three choices. At that point we just decided what we liked the most and what mattress had the most reasonable price.
We can’t thank Macy’s enough for this experience and the assistance in purchasing our new mattress! Next purchase – a headboard!
