The weather’s seemingly starting to cool down which makes it perfect for perusing the aisles of locally sourced goods found at the 12 South Farmers Market. Stepping into Sevier Park that’s filled with rows of 36 vendors, takes me back to my childhood. The smell of fresh produce is reminiscent of planting a garden with my dad, and then later harvest the goods. The market offers something for everyone; from farms selling their produce and seasonal berry vendors, to dairies selling its wares and meats, to baked goods and to specialty vendors like pasta, honey and bone broth that’s delivered right to your door.
The haul from this past Tuesday’s trip to the market boasted farm fresh goods from Old School Farmand pimento cheese from Professor Bailey’s Spicy Pimento Cheese. The pimento cheese is always a win and I love purchasing fresh produce from Old School Farm because of its initiative. The non-profit farm is dedicated to producing quality farm-to-table food while providing employment for individuals of all abilities, allowing everyone to work together side-by-side.
The community farmers market’s open, rain or shine, every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30-6:30 p.m. May 2nd to October 31st. Maybe it’s that child feeling that I get when we visit the market, or the thought that buying fresh will make me healthier, the 12 South Farmers Market is a must during the spring/summer months in Nashville.
