It’s been an eventful one-year of marriage to say the least. With many things happening outside of our control, it’s always reassuring to know that I have my husband to turn to for the good and bad times.
Saturday we went to the Nashville Predators Craft Beer Festival. It was our second year attending the event. We went the first year we moved here and skipped out last year because, obviously, we were getting married. We can’t believe we’ve been in Nashville now for about two and a half years! Anyways, it was fun trying out the various craft beers that were offered up for samples.
Sunday we celebrated our first wedding anniversary by trying an American restaurant with an extensive oyster menu called Henrietta Red. We started out by having drinks at the bar. I tried the Little Deuce Coupe made with wodka (I had to ask, and it’s how the Polish spell it), grapefruit, lemon, grenadine and mint. I love when I find drinks like this, because there’s not too sweet, not too fruity and just the right about of alcohol ratio with a tart finish.
Next we moved into the dining room and started with oysters, since they are heavily recommended here. (Not pictured because I forgot to take one. We were too busy exchanging our gifts at this point.) The oysters are offered with three different accompaniments – lemon, house made cocktail sauce and two different types of mignonette. They were great, especially since we had sworn off oysters after having a bad experience last time we ate them.
Our server asked if we were celebrating anything when we first were seated and we had mentioned that it was our first wedding anniversary. The next thing we knew, he was carrying two glasses of complimentary champagne to toast the occasion. (It’s the little things…)
We followed those up by ordering the wood fired bread and peach salad – both amazing. For dinner, I had the Red Snapper and Kevin tried the Trout. We opted for no dessert because we decided to take part in the tradition of eating the first tier of wedding cake on your first anniversary. Honestly, it didn’t taste too bad and I recommend wrapping the cake in plastic wrap followed by foil, and then freezing.
